Singapore opened its medal account at the IWAS World Wheelchair & Amputee Games 2009 with five medals in badminton and swimming, including gold medals for the badminton doubles pairing of Tay Wei Ming and Kelvin Pung and for swimmer James Leow in the 100m butterfly of the S9 category.

Singapore governing bodies of disability sports held an MOU signing ceremony with Korean Paralympic Committee (KPC). This agreement will help cement more concrete relations amongst the signing parties, spearhead research and development in assistive sports equipment and facilitate training programmes for the athletes with disabilities between the two countries.
