Tokyo, Japan - The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) and the Tokyo, 2009 Asian Youth Para Games Organizing Committee (TAYPOC) signed the host city contract for the Tokyo 2009, Asian Youth Para Games on the 10th June 2008.
Approximately 500 youth athletes from 40 member nations are expected to participate in these sport competitions for youth athletes with a disability next year.
The signing ceremony was held in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government office between APC President, Dato’ Zainal Abu Zarin and Mr. Isao Hokugo, President of the TAYPOC. The occassion was graced and witnessed by the Governor of Tokyo, Hon. Mr. Shintaro Ishihara.
APC GLC Chairman, Mr. Aso and APC Secretary General, Ms. Malini were amongst the attendees.
“This contract is an important step towards the success of the next Asian Youth Para Games,” said APC President Dato’ Zainal Abu Zarin.” With only one year remaining, TAYPOC has a great deal of preparation and challenge ahead.”
“The APC is confident that the Asian Youth Para Games in Tokyo will be a tremendous success,” said Zainal. “We are enjoying an excellent relationship with the Organizing Committee.”
The aim of Tokyo 2009 is to stage unique Asian Youth Para Games and further strengthen and promote the Paralympic Movement by providing excellent conditions for youth athletes to compete, delivering a high level of accessibility and maximizing media coverage.
APC President and the other two members were invited to pay a courtesy visit to the President and Vice President of Assembly on the same day.
