Flag Presentation Ceremony: Kuala Lumpur 2009 ASEAN Para Games and Tokyo 2009 Asian Youth Para Games (Media)

Contingents representing Singapore for the upcoming ASEAN Para Games and the Asian Youth Para Games received an encouraging boost as the respective Chef De Missions presented the state flag to their Flag Bearers at a ceremony held at Raffles City Shopping Centre on 1 August 2009.

The flag bearers for the ASEAN Para Games and the Asian Youth Para Games are ASEAN Para Games silver medalist, Tay Wei Ming and Paralympic gold medalist, Yip Pin Xiu, respectively. The national swimmer had this to say, “I feel extremely proud to be flying the flag for Singapore at the Asian Youth Para Games. Our participation is an indication that youth and continuity are alive and well in the local sports scene.”

Tay Wei Ming is no stranger to donning national colors as well, having made a medal-winning debut at the previous ASEAN Para Games in Korat, Thailand.

Mr Raja Singh, Chef De Mission of the ASEAN Para Games and decorated ex national athlete said “The athletes are training very hard and looking forward to give their best at the coming Asean Para Games. We are targeting 15 medals. However regardless of the results I am very proud of their dedication and passion. I know they will do Singapore proud! “He will be leading a contingent consisting of 50 athletes and officials.

Veteran educator and stalwart of the sports industry, Dr Teo-Koh Sock Miang will be guiding a 22 person strong contingent for the Asian Youth Para Games as the Chef De Mission.

The ASEAN Para Games will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 15-19 August 2009. The Asian Youth Para Game will take place in Tokyo from 11-13 September 2009.

Team Singapore (sailing) for the ASEAN Para Games will be departing on 6 August 2009, 8.00am from Singapore Sports Council, 230 Stadium Boulevard S397799. The main contingent will be leaving on 12 August 2009 from the same location at 7.30am.
