Official Send-Off Ceremony for 2nd ASEAN Para Games & FESPIC Youth Games 2003
Mr Chan Soo Sen, Minister of State for Education & Community Development and Sports will be the Guest-of-Honour at the Official Send-Off Ceremony for the 2nd ASEAN Para Games and Far East & South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) Youth Games at 6.30pm in the VIP Lounge of the National Stadium on Monday, 15th December 2003.
The Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) will be sending a contingent comprising of 8 athletes and 7 officials to represent Singapore at the 2nd ASEAN Para Games in Hanoi, Vietnam between 19th and 28th December 2003. The ASEAN Para Games is the equivalent of the SEA Games and Singapore will be sending a contingent of 8 athletes to compete in the Track and Field and Swimming events. The first ever ASEAN Para Games was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2001 which attracted a participation of more than 760 disabled athletes and officials from the 10 ASEAN countries.
The Far East & South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) is the equivalent of the Asian Games and this year’s Youth Games is the first time the organizers are specifically targeting the young – from the ages of 12 to 19. With a theme of ‘Let the Youths Lead the Way’, the objectives of the Games are to foster sports participation among the disabled youth, nurture potential youths as stars of the future and to foster friendship and communication among the FESPIC countries.
Sixteen countries will be competing in the first ever FESPIC Youth Games which will be held between 19th and 28th December 2003 in Hong Kong, China. Our 19 athletes will be competing in Athletics, Boccia & Swimming events.
