Prize Presentation & Closing Ceremony of the 1st ASEAN Wheelchair Basketball Championship (2003)
Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Community Development and Sports will be the Guest-of-Honour at the Prize Presentation & Closing Ceremony of the 1st ASEAN Wheelchair Basketball Championship (2003).
The 5-day Championship which has attracted participation from 50 wheelchair basketball players representing five ASEAN countries namely Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore, will come to a close tomorrow (Wednesday, 15th October 2003). The results and the overall champion will be announced at the Closing Ceremony where Dr Yaacob Ibrahim will also be giving away the prizes to the winners.
Organised by the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC), the Championship is sanctioned by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) and the ASEAN Para Sports Federation. The Championship is the first disability game organized for the disabled in the ASEAN region.

The SDSC has organized the Championship to provide sports excellence opportunities to Singapore’s wheelchair basketball players who aspire to excel in the national and international arena as well as to further develop and enhance Singapore as a hub for disability sports.
The Championship has garnered wide support from the private and public sectors in Singapore. They include South West CDC, Singapore Pools, Singapore Sports Council and the Singapore International Foundation.
