If you are looking for something inspiring that celebrates human triumph over near insurmountable difficulties, look no further.
Murderball - which takes its name from the game of contact rugby played on modified wheelchairs - depicts the life experiences of rugby athletes who shatter all stereotypical views about the disabled. Besides depicting one’s personal struggles, the movie also emphasizes strong human spirit that abounds as countries such as USA, Japan and Canada compete in the Paralympics
One of the most enlightening scenes was when a group of children asked these sportsmen to perform actions, such as taking off their shorts or getting off a wheelchair, which they think the disabled cannot accomplish. The athletes’ willingness to do so, coupled with the boldness of the children was extremely refreshing.
This scene aptly showed that there must be a two-way relationship between the able-bodied and the disabled, for both parties to understand what the disabled people feel about their disability and would hence minimize misunderstanding.
Murderball definitely cast a different light on admirable people. Once they overcome their obstacles, they become extraordinary people overcoming mental and physical disabilities that even the most able-bodied person may not surpass. This movie is not one to be missed.
