A Volunteer Who “Inspire” - Shawn Chew

Volunteers are important to the growth of disability sports in Singapore. Many a time, we depend on their help to run programs smoothly, to take care of athletes during overseas competitions and to raise funds for disability sports. That is why we always try to find ways, within our limited resources, to thank these selfless persons for all that they have done e.g. by nominating worthy volunteers for service awards.

We are therefore proud to announce that Mr Shawn Chew, one of our long-time volunteers for sailing, was awarded the Rotary Club of Suntec City “Inspire” Volunteer Award 2006 on 9th June.

Shawn’s achievements and volunteering passion are inspiring to many others.  A regular volunteer since 2001, devoting every Sunday morning for the disabled sailing programme at Changi Sailing Club, Shawn helps to prepare the boats, fix up the masts, carry the disabled into the boats and manage the athletes. His dedication has also seen him picking up athletes to and from trainings, all out of his own initiative.

Shawn also encourages his fellow colleagues to help out at the disabled sailing programme and acts as the staff volunteer coordinator in his company.

We hereby congratulate the worthy winner on his recognition.
