With Singapore fast becoming a media hub, we decided that it was time for us to explore more forms of media to further the awareness of disability sports.
Therefore, we held our first student video and animation competition – Uniquely Sporting 2006 - in May. Students were encouraged to make animations or short videos (no longer than 15 minutes) on the topics of disability sports or disabled athletes.
It was a hard process. It was the school holidays. Not many students could be reached despite this attractive poster done up by our kind volunteer designer. And although we had several groups calling us to express their interest, some of them could not get their hands on the necessary equipment to make it happen in the end.
Nonetheless, four teams pulled through the difficulties and made it for the competition. Here are their masterpieces:

Chestnut Drive students relate their heartwarming experiences of volunteering for Boccia training.

Find out how dragon boating, an increasingly popular sport in Singapore, is not exclusive to the non-disabled.
One of these four teams will win a 3D/2N Kuala Lumpur package to cheer on the Singapore contingent at the Far East and South Pacific games (FESPIC) this November. Who will that be?
Winners will be notified by 21 August, but for the rest of you, check the next SDSC Touch to find out!
Last of all, we hope that all participants have had a fun time doing this project and learnt something worthwhile in the process. Disability can happen to anyone, young or old. A disabled person can achieve as much as an able-bodied, if they are given the equal opportunity to. We hope to see more good works joining us next year!
