To Hongkong: Regional Education Workshop for Boccia Coach

Boccia education workshops are rare events in the world, organized twice annually at the most. That is partly why whenever they are held, coaches, teachers, physiotherapists and sports administrators register for them without much hesitation. The other reason is that Boccia, a sport designed for the severely disabled, is gaining popularity and recognition in the world. More and more countries are identifying the need to professionalize the sport.
Practical Workshop
The host for this Regional Education Workshop, Hongkong, boasts some of the best Boccia players in the Asian region. The workshop saw many Hongkong Boccia coaches sharing their expertise, together with Ms Misako Watanabe, the head coach of the Japan Boccia Association and Mr Sa Young-tae, Vice-President of the Korean Boccia Federation for the Disabled and head coach of Korea Team.

With valuable input from the various speakers, the workshop aimed to educate coaches in the Asian region with the latest coaching skills and knowledge, rules and regulations of Boccia, refereeing and classification of athletes. This would enhance their coaching competency in Boccia and at the same time, provide an opportunity to get together, learn and exchange with each other.
Hardworking Singapore team
Thanks to the kind giving from the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Singapore managed to send a team of four to the workshop, which was held from 11 to 13 Aug:  (See picture below)

Lanny Kwok, coach for national Boccia team (first from left);

Norisah and Chen Zhiyun, assistant volunteer coaches for national Boccia team (third and fourth from left respectively).

The trip has been fruitful and the team is more confident than ever in preparing the national team that is attending the FESPIC Games in Kuala Lumpur this November.
