A Night of Celebrations for Team Singapore’s FESPIC Victories

26th January 2007

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports (MCYS), graced Team Singapore’s FESPIC appreciation dinner at The Pod in the National Library last evening (25 January 2007). Team Singapore and the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) jointly organised the dinner to celebrate the achievements of the athletes who brought home a total of 7 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals for the 9th FESPIC Games 2006.

The victorious Team Singapore was ranked 11th out of 46 participating countries at the end of the games.

“My Ministry believes in building a cohesive and inclusive society. While the government will support efforts to integrate the disabled into society, we can only succeed as a nation if the people and private sectors play their part“, said Mr Teo Ser Luck during his speech at the appreciation dinner.

Mr Teo has also assured that disabled athletes are of equal importance as their able-bodied counterparts and the government will give them the necessary support.

“You are fine examples of sporting heroes who bring inspiration to us all”, praised Mr Teo on the success of the athletes before ending his speech at the dinner.

Also present were Mr Tan Ju Seng, President of the Singapore Disability Sports Council and Mr Alex Chan, Chairman of the Singapore Sports Council (SSC).

Amidst the panoramic view from The Pod, congratulatory wishes and handshakes flowed freely to the athletes. The night belonged entirely to them.

We are very proud of you.
