Wheelchair Racer Ting Chee Keong, Eric stormed to a personal best timing of 00:65.08 seconds in the 400m (T52 Category) of the International Open German Championships Athletics held in Berlin on 15 June 2008.
By doing so, Ting has provided Singapore with an excellent opportunity of another slot in the upcoming Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. Singapore has so far qualified for four sports, Swimming, Sailing, Equestrian and Athletics at the upcoming Paralympic Games which will be held from 6-17 September 2008.
Ting, 36, participated in a total of 3 events, 100m, 200m and 400m at the Championships. He saved his best performance for last as he clocked his personal best in the 400m, a good 3 seconds ahead of 00:68.15 seconds, the ‘A’ Minimum Qualifying Standards set by the International Paralympic Committee.
The International Open German Championships Athletics, an International Paralympic Committee sanctioned event was held in Berlin from 13-15 June 2008.
Ting will be returning to Singapore along with fellow Wheelchair Racers, Norsilawati Binte Sa’at and Dr William Tan Kian Meng, on 17 June 2008, 5.15pm at Changi Airport Terminal 1 on Flight BA11.
