Team Singapore Sets Off for 5th ASEAN Para Games

Team Singapore departed for Kuala Lumpur today for the 5th ASEAN Para Games in a cozy sending off ceremony attended by Mr Tan Ju Seng, Chairman of the Singapore National Paralympic Council, at the Singapore Sports Council

In his pep speech for the team, Mr Tan emphasized the pride that the athletes should take with them to Kuala Lumpur, knowing that they were selected using a set of stringent qualifying criteria.

The contingent includes five Paralympians, Eric Ting, Yip Pin Xiu, Desiree Lim and Theresa Goh. Sailor Jovin Tan made his way to Port Dickson on 6 August 2009 together with the sailing team.

Team Singapore consists of 50 athletes and officials and will be participating in 7 sports namely, Athletics, Badminton, Chess, Sailing, Swimming, Bowling and Wheelchair Basketball. The ASEAN Para Games, the equivalent of the SEA Games for athletes with disability will be held at Kuala Lumpur and Port Dickson from 15 to 19 August 2009.
