After months of rigorous trials and selections, 41 athletes were finally shortlisted to represent Singapore at the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC) 2006 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this November.
Began in 1975, the FESPIC Games is the second highest level multi-sports competition for the disabled in the region after the Paralympics. This FESPIC Games 2006 will be a historic event for these athletes and the contingent as it will be the last FESPIC Games ever. From 2010 onwards, it will take on a new name - ‘Asian Para Games’, to reflect the move towards equal sport opportunities for both abled and disabled-bodies. Around 2,300 athletes from 27 countries have confirmed their participation in the Games, as of 12 August 2006.
To support Singapore’s participation at this last FESPIC Games, a Torch Relay Run and CEO Sailing Regatta are being organized to raise the funds needed - a total of $120,000.
The FESPIC Torch Relay Run is slated to start at Malaysian High Commission and end at Marina Bay. Split into six different legs representing the six different sports Singapore is participating in the FESPIC Games 2006, the Torch Relay Run will be completed jointly by all disabled athletes and officials going to the Games.
We would like to call out to companies to pledge your support for this cause by adopting a leg and encouraging your employees to run with the athletes. Following which, CEOs/top management executives from the companies can participate in the Sailing Regatta – launched at Marina Bay – together with an athlete of your pick. Registration fee is set at S$5000 per organization. For companies that wish to become sponsors for these events and enjoy a range of branding opportunities, there are also sponsorship packages ranging from S$10, 000 to S$30, 000.
Members of the public are also invited to participate in the Torch Relay Run as individuals or in groups, with minimum donations of $100 each. Alternatively, if you would like to make an outright cash donation, you can:

Any amount, no matter how big or small, is equally significant towards making the dreams of these athletes come true.
