From 21 Sep to 2 Oct, the best table tennis players with disability from 23 nations gathered in Montreux, Switzerland, for the Montreux 2006 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Table Tennis World Championships.
China and Germany were announced as the best countries in the single events, claiming six and three gold medals respectively. Five of the six Chinese World Titles were won in the women’s competition. Lin Ma was the sole Chinese man who won a gold medal, defeating Stanislaw Fraczyk from Austria in the final of the standing class 9.
As of 2 Oct (Singapore time), China is leading with 14 gold medals, 4 silvers and 7 bronzes. Second in place is Germany with 5 gold medals, 3 silvers and 1 bronze; and third is Korea with 3 gold medals, 5 silvers, and 1 bronze.
