Madness of William - Olympic wheelchair athlete makes a comeback!

After his recovery from lower back and right shoulder injuries sustained during various races early last year, Dr William Tan, brain scientist, medical doctor and Olympic wheelchair athlete is making a comeback.

He will embark on a GRAND SLAM marathon world record attempt between 28 January and 22 April 2007 to conquer the North Pole, South Pole and all the continents on Planet Earth to raise funds for the Global Flying Hospitals, (GFH), a not-for-profit organization whose mission is in providing urgent and preventative medical attention to suffering people in developing countries worldwide, with specialized aircraft refurbished as state-of-the-art surgical hospitals.

His wheelchair odyssey will take him to Africa, South America, North America, Antarctica, Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Arctic. He will face tremendous challenges.

Besides William, no one has done a marathon in a wheelchair before in the North Pole nor in the South Pole.

In 2005, Dr Tan became the first person in the world to undertake a wheelchair push in Antarctica and to accomplish ten marathons in seven continents in 65 days.

William’s life journey in overcoming many challenges resulting from his childhood disability and in living life to the fullest BEYOND his wheelchair is truly inspiring.
