The 2nd ‘Learn-to-play’ (LTP) block is back after its successful first run in February and March 2007. Once again the idea of education and fun is combined in a bid to inform the public on disability sports. A wide variety of sports would be available for participants, ranging from wheelchair tennis to soccer and also archery. Registration fees have been made affordable as participants get to enjoy discounts from 50% to 75% off the sports programmes (http://www.sdsc.org.sg/learntoplay/type_of_sports/).
In line with the SDSC slogan, ‘disability must never disqualify’, the programme has been planned to achieve the objective of introducing, into the lives of the physically challenged, a chance to realize their talent in sports. The programmes would not only have participants informed on the physical aspects of approaching the sports, but also the mental aspects.
For instance, the archery programme includes a section that would enlighten participants on how athletes focus and cope with competition stress and excitement. Also, they would be exposed to the historical aspect of archery. The tenpin bowling programme would also educate on footwork mechanics and the swimming programme would help get participants comfortable in the water with water confidence exercises. Thus another incentive for participation in the LTP would be its holistic approach of towards sports.
By joining the Learn-To-Play Programmes, we hope that you will embark on your journey towards a more balanced and healthy lifestyle. Visit http://www.sdsc.org.sg/learntoplay today!
