A brief background of NDL
Unlike many one-time off competitive events, NDL takes on a different approach to competitive sports, with it being a six-month league session. Instead of athletes staking all bets on a single competition, NDL seeks to promote sporting excellence by allowing athletes to accumulate points through good performances at matches organized during the league. NDL certainly provides athletes with a competitive platform to enhance their sporting experiences by allowing them to pit their skills with their fellow counterparts and gain exposure through these sporting exchanges.

NDL 2006
For the record, there were a total of 357 athletes who participated in NDL 2006. The NDL not only brings people with the same passion for a particular sport, it also allows the participants and volunteers to have the opportunity to interact with one another. Being a volunteer during one of the competition myself, I saw many volunteers from different schools and of course, from SDSC helping out to set up the equipment and banners in the halls.

It was also most heartening to see many familiar faces taking part in the competitions. For those who piously went to all the badminton competitions organized by SDSC, it was always engaging to see athletes like Chua DeBao, Ginny Ong, Chua Eng Choo, and many others try out-do one another in a bid to prove their sporting capabilities. Endearing was the fact that every participant who came were very eager to win, with many of them constantly checking the scoreboard, indicating their very passion for the sport.

What’s in store for NDL 2007?
The 2nd series of NDL will officially kick-start in late September (Exact date is yet to be confirmed). Registration information will be sent out via email blasts and snail mails to SDSC’s affiliated organisations and all special schools related to disabled students.

Participants will get to compete with one another in Soccer, Basketball, Badminton, Bowling, Lawn Bowl, Archery, and Equestrian. However, Boccia and Sailing will be taken out in this year’s NDL as SDSC is organizing the National Boccia Championship and National Sailing Competition in July this year.

What’s more, SDSC is proposing for Futsal (to replace 5-aside Soccer), Shooting and 8-ball pool to be added into the comprehensive list of sports offered. All these will be confirmed at a later date. So, look out for an update on the coming NDL 2007 in July!

Please note that only members of the SDSC’s affiliated organizations and registered students of special schools can register to participate in the NDL 2007.

We sincerely hope that anyone who is eligible can participate and that schools, together with organisations, will actively encourage all their students to take part in this not-to-be-missed annual sports event.
