Dragontug - Do you have the guts?

By Ong Sze Ying

DragonTug Feeling lethargic on a Sunday and a strong cup of coffee can’t seem to perk you up? The UOB Ultimate DragonTug Showdown would be your wake up call!

Calling out to all adrenaline junkies and dragon boating fanatics, take out your pen and mark 20th May on your calendars! DragonTug is THE LATEST hype of dragon-boating to give you that extra oomph and kick.

Okay, you’ve got my attention. Now, what exactly is DragonTug?
Basically, in a nutshell, DragonTug is the perfect blend of tug-of-war and dragon boating. It is all about the different teams challenging their power, strength and skill. Compared to the usual parallel races, with both teams racing to the finishing line, DragonTug tests each team’s level of endurance as both teams are held back by a common cable within a few metres of the Victory Flag. At this point in time, both teams would have to slug it out, through a tug-of-war, in order to win the race.

Wow, I feel all pumped up and ready to go!
In addition to satisfying your adrenaline rush, you get do something for your chosen charity. The Ultimate DragonTug Showdown Charity Tug-of-Hearts is a fund-raising element that aims to bond the community together by giving the participating teams a worthy cause to fight for. Participating teams can seek out organisations to support them and their selected charity, whereby the organisation pledges to donate a fixed amount of $800 plus a variable amount that is tagged to the team’s performance ($X multiplied by the number of races won) during the event.

So, what are you waiting for?
The DragonTug Showdown promotes the idea of sportsmanship and healthy living. Why waste a glorious Sunday morning sitting in front of the television, when you can be down at the Singapore River basking in the sun and burning some calories along the way? Furthermore, you can make that Sunday even more special by adopting SDSC as your supported charity. This initiative is in line with SDSC’s beliefs. The kind of resilience and spirit displayed during the race is precisely the mantra every athlete, regardless of disabilities, hold strongly to. Make 20th May one very meaningful Sunday, for us and for you.

To register, the entry fee is $15 per person and teams have to fill up the UOB Ultimate DragonTug Charity Signup form, which can be downloaded from http://www.dragontug.com/charity.html
