Do you remember the Olympic Dream held last year? For those who have been longing for another chance for an exceptional experience, here is the good news: the Student Volunteer Corps (SVC) is organising the Olympic Dream 2007!
This Olympic Dream 2007 will comprise three components: ‘Around The World in a Day’ (the ability challenge), Sports Carnival and ‘Pledge-A-Lap’ (fund-raising).
Around The World in a Day
Olympic Dream 2007 has a special Ability Challenge in store for you - to circumnavigate the globe in 24 hours! No, you do not need to bring your passport. On 15 July, SVC aims to complete 100,000 laps of 400m at Toa Payoh Stadium. This equates to 40,000 km – a complete circumnavigation of the globe. People on foot and on wheels (wheelchairs, roller skates, bicycles, etc) will be participating, including wheelchair racer Mohd Firdaus Bin Nordin, the first Singaporean to earn a slot at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics. Come and join in the fun and share the glorious moment to write a fresh chapter of Singapore’s quest for the Olympic Gold Medal.
Sports Carnival
Besides the Ability Challenge, you can also enjoy a sports carnival. This carnival will demonstrate various disability sports, with exciting awards and prizes to be won. More importantly, don’t miss the fun-fare, exhibitions and food outlets!
Pledge-A-Lap
SVC aims to raise $500,000 by collecting pledges for 100,000 laps. 80% of the funds raised will go towards promoting youth volunteerism and raising awareness of disability sports in Singapore. 20% of the funds will contribute towards supporting disabled athletes in their preparation for Paralympics 2008.
The Olympic Dream project plans to reach a climax in mid-2008 as part of a send-off party for disabled athletes who would head to compete in 2008 Beijing Paralympics. SVC would like to call for active involvement from the community and companies to support the programmes organised by SVC and SDSC, through donations, volunteering and participation. Please contact SVC if you are interested to take a part.
See you on 15 July!
