Aviva’s sponsorship helps relay team of disabled athletes to realize targets

While there are many disabled athletes in Singapore who would like to pursue their sporting passions, there are few who have the luxury of the resources to do so. Most of the times, the difficulties of transport and equipment pose the biggest barriers to their enthusiasm.

For example, Muhammad Firdaus Bin Nordin could hardly have become the world-class wheelchair racer he is today, without support from his family, as well as the right assistance for the equipment required to help develop his talents, the most crucial being the racing wheelchair. And a decent racing wheelchair will cost around S$9,000 to S$13,000, which is not a tiny sum for many disabled athletes, who even encounter the basic difficulties for sustenance.

However, thanks to Aviva, 2 athletes - Foo Fung Liang and Jack Lai, have been given a second lease of life with a new racing wheelchair as well as a handcycle for their participation in the Ironman 70.3 Singapore. The two will be racing this Sunday together with fellow team-mate, Dr Wong Meng Ee.
