This girl is an enigma. How she manages to be a full-time athlete, a part-time marketing staff and a part-time student really is mind-boggling. And not only that, she is now attempting to complete a 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km wheelchair race - the half Ironman?!
Yes, the girl is none other than 20-year-old Theresa Goh, otherwise known as ‘World Record Holder’, ‘Inspirational Woman’ and soon to be, ‘the Iron Lady’.
2 September will mark Theresa’s virgin attempt at the awe-inspiring Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore - a grueling physical and mental test that will last at least four hours on the roads, with more than 1000 other athletes who will be undertaking the same challenge. And the prize money? Nope, it’s all about testing her limits, and helping to raise the awareness of the abilities of disabled sportsmen.
It certainly then does not come as a surprise as to why Standard Chartered would want to pledge their support for such a dynamic staff. Within a month of her announcement of race participation, a handcycle and a racing wheelchair arrived for Theresa to train and participate in the bike and run course, with compliments from Standard Chartered, where she works as a marketing staff.
Theresa is ever grateful for the support Standard Chartered has been giving her so far, along her way to make Singapore proud at the pinnacle of sports achievements - the Paralympics. Kudos too, from the Singapore Disability Sports Council, to Standard Chartered for allowing many others to be inspired by Theresa’s accomplishments, through your encouragement.
