21 October 2007, Islandwide
Organized by students from Dunman High School (DHS)
As part of a fundraising event for the President’s Star Challenge, a group of Year 4 and 5 students have come together to organize a DHSXperience for not only their fellow students, but also for people with disabilities. The DHSXperience will be nothing like other student projects as the group has planned an amazing lineup of events to boost interaction between the school students and people with disabilities, as well as help the social sector to promote awareness of their causes to the students.
The group would thus like to invite people with disability to help out in a game called the “Paralympics”, which they plan to hold in the school on 20 October. There will be different stations set up in Dunman High School to test the abilities of the different classes as they again experience different disabilities. Guests will be invited to join in the games as station masters, together with the students organizers.
Another more elaborate plan is the fundraising drive - Xpedition. The group is looking for people of all kinds of disabilities to join the students in an islandwide fun challenge which will require the different teams to move around Singapore to complete tasks. The teams will be asked to play games while experiencing different disabilities such as visual impairment, hearing impairment and physical impairment. Games include folding paper cranes with blocked vision, completing a distance with certain body parts tied and guessing a word by reading sign language.
The Xpedition welcomes children to adults with disability who would like to join the student teams in completing these challenges. This will allow the students to interact and understand the difficulties faced by people with disability as they complete the challenges together and move around Singapore. So, if you are free on 21 October, why not join the students on this unique ‘Xperience’?
