NIE Trainee Teachers Set Example - Supporting Athletes with Disability

The SDSC is proud to share that one of 2008’s first pledges of support for athletes with disability came from a trainee teachers’ group in the National Institute of Education (NIE). In January, a group of compassionate trainee teachers presented the Boccia team training under SDSC with a cheque of over $2,000. The money was raised painstakingly through a carnival held in NIE, organized by the group to showcase the unique sport of Boccia and how Boccia has benefited people with disability.

During the carnival, national Boccia player Goh Ta Lang played a few friendly games with the visitors. A video was especially made by one of the trainee teachers to provide the visitors with insight of other players in the training squad and instructions of the Boccia game.

SDSC sincerely thanks Team Gaia for their good-hearted effort. We believe that such projects are especially meaningful as the teachers will be going on to groom the next pillars of our society. By their own active involvement in the community, they will be better equipped to lead their students to be gracious citizens in the future.

Thank you, Team Gaia!
