The grand athletic feast, IWAS World Wheelchair & Amputee Games 2007, is going to be held in Taipei this year. Athletes can look forward to participating in 11 sports at this world game this year, as well as Beijing 2008 Paralympics qualification opportunities in archery, athletics, wheelchair-fencing, shooting, power-lifting, swimming and table-tennis.

Entries can only be submitted through your National Paralympic Council (for Singapore, please contact Singapore Disability Sports Council). Individual entries will not be considered. 

About the Logo

The main focus of the logo design is the character “i”, which not only represents an international outlook of Taipei but also stresses the concept of self of each athlete. The script is tilted about 30 degrees to indicate a sense of movement.

“i” also personifies the hand of an athlete, while “WAS” personifies the legs. Although the characters “WAS” are striked across and filled with different colors, they symbolize that the athletes will overcome their deficiencies and reach a state of harmony during the game.

“WAS” also represents the equipment held in the athletes’ hands, signifying that the athletes will do their best in order to receive the highest honor.

The main color used is light blue, as it stands for both liveliness and the overall good weather in Taipei. Green color in this logo signifies the lush plants in Taipei. To welcome the visitors from all over the world, the logo finishes with a touch of red color for the characters “Taipei 2007.”

About the Mascots
The mascot chosen for IWA 2007-Taipei is the pig.

The 12 Chinese zodiac signs is an unique age system employed by ancient Chinese culture, and 2007 is the year of the pig according to this system.

As the Chinese pronounciation for pig is “zhu”, we hope that these mascots will bring success to this year’s competition and its participating athletes.

The design for this year’s mascot includes both a male and a female character, each with energetic expressions symbolizing the energy of the athletes.
