Dorinha – Mascot of the 3rd IBSA World Championships and Games Brasil 2007
Mauricio de Sousa is the creator of “Turma da Mônica”, a very popular comic/cartoon among Brazilian children. Turma da Monica always showed the life as it is among the children, and as every kid has contact with deficients daily, Mauricio de Sousa created the characters of Luca and Dorinha, besides Humberto, a boy who doesn’t speak.
Dorinha is a little blind girl, inspired by the strength and wisdom of Ms. Dorina Nowill, an 88-year-old who has been blind since she was 17. Ms. Nowill is one of the Brazilians who has been fighting for the inclusion of visually impaired people. She is the lifetime President of a foundation that takes her name, and well as the biggest braille company in Latin América. The company produces more than 30 million pages in Braille per year.
Dorinha is a girl who is in tune with everything, and she is very happy for being chosen as the mascot of 3rd IBSA World Championships and Games – Brasil 2007.
