IFDS Disabled Sailing World Championships 2007

This world class championship is expecting to host about 170 sailors from 30 countries. About 45 2.4mRs, 18 SKUD 18s and 27 Sonars are expected to be competing. This event is one of two qualification events for the 2008 Paralympic Games Sailing Competition.

The Collot d’Escury Cup will be awarded to the World Champion in the Three-Person Keelboat Class. The Rochester Yacht Club Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the World Champion in the Two-Person Keelboat Class. The Royal Netherlands Yacht Club Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the World Champion in the Single-Person Class.

Singapore will also be participating in the races to qualify for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. Experienced sailors like Desiree Lim Kok Liang and Jovin Tan will be competing together with upcoming sailors, Tan Seow Min and Joanne Toh, to try to earn Singapore its next qualifying slot for the Games, after wheelchair racer Muhammad Firdaus Bin Nordin and swimmer Theresa Goh Rui Si.
