The Wheelchair Basketball League (WBL) 2007 is the first initiative by the newly formed Wheelchair Basketball Association (WBA) to increase public awareness of and promote widespread support for wheelchair basketball in Singapore, while providing a platform where there can be integration and increased levels of competition and sparring opportunities through the inclusion of able-bodied participants.
Not only that, through this inaugural league the WBA hopes to recruit potential new players into its training programmes and identify competent players for advancement to higher levels of competition, such as the upcoming ASEAN Para Games in January 2008.
The WBL will take place over 4 weekends, beginning from 8 September. The first and final matches will be played at Jurong East Sports Hall (near the swimming pool). About 6 teams mixed with players from the able-bodied and disabled communities will be playing in the preliminary rounds.
Hop down to cheer for the players or even, just to catch a glimpse of this ever-growing sport in Singapore on 8 Sep. The matches start from 5.00 pm and will end around 9.00 pm. Don’t miss the crashes, the dunks and the standoffs. Get ready to do the WBL roar!
