IFDS International Classification Seminar

20 to 22 March 2008
Singapore

This 3-day seminar is held in conjunction with the IFDS Two-Person Keelboat 2008 SKUD 18 World Championship, the final Paralympic Qualification event for sailing which will be held in Singapore.

The seminar will be conducted by speakers experienced in sailing for persons with disability, including IFDS international classifiers Stephen Wilson (AUS), Charles Simpson (CAN), Ben Tan (SIN) and Peter Anatassiasis (AUS). Participants can look forward to deepening their knowledge and earning accreditation as a classifier under the tutelage of these well-respected mentors.

Besides the opportunity to network with other sailing enthusiasts and learn from the experts, participants can understand more about organizing an international event and the importance of classification. Those who complete the course will also develop capabilities to become national or international sailing classifiers in future.

Content
The working language of the classification course will be English but the content will be highly visual and practical. Besides theory, the course will also provide practical trainings as well as on-the-water observations.

This is a course of elementary to intermediate level. It will introduce general information about the IFDS Functional Classification System which requires all IFDS Recognised Authorities to have a Chief National Classifier. This seminar provides the opportunity to train individuals for this role.

Eligibility
Those with medical background, such as doctors and physiotherapists, or with a working medical knowledge of the neuro musculoskeletal system and functionality of sailing are strongly encouraged to enter this course. People with a general interest in classification and are willing to assist the classifiers are also welcome.

Cost
