2 May 2026Singapore’s Jovin Tan Wei Qiang has claimed gold at the Montreal 2026 World Boccia Cup, winning the Men’s BC1 title after going undefeated across six rounds of competition. The tournament—the first World Boccia event of the 2026 season—is currently being held at the Aréna Maurice-Richard in Montreal, Canada, and runs until 4 May.

This result marks Tan’s first gold at a World Cup, the marquee tier of the World Boccia competitive calendar. It builds on his fourth-place finish at the Seoul 2025 World Boccia Cup last September.

Tan, currently world-ranked No. 15, opened his campaign with 11–0 wins over Brazil’s Jose Carlos Chagas and Chile’s Danillo Diaz, and a 6–5 victory over world No. 1 and reigning 2024 Paralympic champion John Loung of Hong Kong. Loung, who took gold at the Paris Games, was the highest-ranked athlete in the draw.

He closed out the pool stage with a 5–2 win over Japan’s Takumi Nakamura to finish top of his group. In the knockout rounds, Tan edged Mexico’s Eduardo Sanchez Reyes 4–3 in a tight semi-final before defeating South Korea’s Sungjoon Jung — the world No. 5 — 3–1 in the gold medal match.

Singapore’s medal haul was completed by Jeralyn Tan Yee Ting, who took bronze in the BC1 Individuals Female event. After falling to eventual gold medallist Hiromi Endo of Japan in the semi-finals, Jeralyn responded with a commanding 6–0 win over Israel’s Orit Kelner in the bronze medal match.
