SG-Coach L1 Goalball (Technical) Coaching Course

The SG-Coach Goalball Technical Programme equips coaches with the necessary skills to coach Goalball. Participants in this 2.5 day programme will not only learn Goalball rules, regulations and sport-specific exercises and activities, they will also learn to adapt coaching practices for persons with visual impairment. This programme will also enable coaches to explore and reflect on their role as a Goalball coach, as well as develop their guiding principles in coaching this sport. Coaches will also discover that this inclusive sport is one that is suited not just for the visually-impaired, but for everyone! New SDSC leadership marks a new alliance to transform the lives of persons with disabilities through sport

A new board was elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) last Thursday evening (29 September 2022). The 12 individuals include familiar figures in para sport, including President of the Singapore National Paralympic Council, Dr Teo-Koh Sock Miang, and five-time Paralympic medalist Yip Pin Xiu, as well as new faces such as Ms Selina Foong, Chief Operating Officer of AWWA, and Dr Anthony Fok, Treasurer of APSN Education Services. With the adoption of a revised constitution this year, the new board will take on a term of four years, from 2022 to 2026. Dr Teo-Koh Sock Miang, SDSC Vice President from 2016-2020 and SDSC President from 2014-2016 and 2020-2022, was re-elected to serve a second consecutive term as President. Dr Teo-Koh, who has more than 30 years of social service organisation management and board governance, has a PhD in disability sports. She is also the President of the Singapore National Paralympic Council and Singapore Special Olympics, as well as a Justice of the Peace. “I am humbled to be elected a second consecutive term, and given an opportunity to continue advocating for our para athletes and Singapore’s para sport vision. I am delighted with the composition of our new board, which gives us a strong alliance of social service agencies, para sports organisations and professionals. This alliance stands behind SDSC with a shared goal to transform the lives of persons with disabilities through sport. The newly elected Board is committed to continue developing SDSC’s programmes, initiatives, resources and partnerships to achieve SDSC’s vision and mission,” said Dr Teo-Koh. Ms Angeline Peh, who was one of the integral figures leading SDSC to raise $500,000 for its programmes and services this August, was elected Vice President. An experienced finance and operations director, she previously served on the SDSC board as Assistant Treasurer in 2019 and 2020 before becoming the Honorary Treasurer from 2020 to 2022. Ms Suzana Soo, principal of a SPED school operated by MINDS, is the board’s new Honorary Secretary, while Mr Gary Chong, Managing Director of ING Bank NV was elected Honorary Treasurer. Mrs Koh-Lim Ai Lay, principal of the Cerebal Palsy Alliance of Singapore, is the board’s new Assistant Treasurer. The new board also comprises elected members Mr James Chia (Assistant Vice President, Sing Post Ltd, and President, Lawn Bowls Association for the Disabled Singapore) and Ms Florence Khemlani (President, Bowling Association for the Disabled Singapore), as well as appointed members Mr Patrick Wong (Regional Head, Business Audit Asia Pacific, Julius Baer) and Dr Leonard Lim (Consultant Sport Physician, Changi General Hospital). Speaking of his new appointment, Mr Chia said, “I hope to bring in relevant experience and champion for the cause and welfare of athletes with disabilities in Singapore, in particular for inclusive and community sports.”

Run for Inclusion 2022

BISFed Referee Course — Bahrain

BISFed is pleased to offer the International BISFed Referee course in Bahrain. This course will enable successful candidates to Referee at International level Boccia competitions. Dates Arrival date: 2 November 2022 Course: 3-5 November 2022 Referee on court: 6-7 November 2022 Departure date: 8 November 2022 *Trainees interested in attending the whole competition will depart on the 12 November. Requirements The course is open to all National Level Referees. Entries are open to all members, however priority will be given to members within Asia and Oceania. The candidates must meet the following criteria: To have been a National Referee for a minimum of 2 years. To have a minimum of 45 matches as a referee Have been active as a National Referee in the last two years before the date of the International Referee Course (Excluding any year(s) without BISFed or National sanctioned Tournaments) Good knowledge of both written and spoken English. Note: Before being accepted, an initial oral test will be done by phone or videoconference with each candidate, if English is not their first language. This will be carried out by course trainers. Being able to make a measurement. Being able to stop a ball. Being able to do the Referees Gestures/signs. Interested candidates must respond to this email no later than 29 September and send: a cover letter, a resume, a support letter from the BISFed Member a copy of their logbook — logbooks should show the number of matches with the dates if English is not thier first language, provide availability of three 15 minutes slots between 3-6 October and mobile phone number for WhatsApp contact. The trainers will decide which of the three slots to speak to the candidate and will inform them. Places available are limited. BISFed will let members know by 10 October if the application has been accepted. BISFed Basic Classification Course — Bahrain

BISFed is pleased to offer the BISFed Basic Classification Course from 3 to 4 November 2022 in Bahrain. The course is open to physiotherapists, doctors with neurological or rehab background or people with extensive knowledge of boccia (athletes, coaches or sport assistants). This course is a prerequisite for further BISFed training at an international level. Interested candidates must respond no later than 29 September 2022 with:  a cover letter;  a resume;  a support letter from the BISFed Member. Entries are limited to 12 candidates and are open to all members, however, priority will be given to members within Asia and Oceania. RDA Singapore: No Horse Run . Walk with Me : Walk-a-Wheelathon

This year, RDA celebrates its 40th Anniversary and has lined up a series of events in the 2nd half of 2022 such as the “No Horse Run . Walk with Me” walkathon. Guest of Honour: Senior Minister of State Mr Chee Hong Tat. The “No Horse Run . Walk with Me” walkathon is a stay fit initiative of RDA to promote healthy lifestyle and fun with sports together. They hope to raise the much needed funds for the charity at the same time. MDAS Go The Dystance 2022
